Q Please post one quotation and your response about the significance and meaning to the quotation for at least two of the three topics below. Plan on writing about 3-4 sentences for each. Once you have posted, you will see your classmates' posts; in order to get full points, you must have two replies to classmates (2-4 sentences each). In your replies, you should try to build on, ask questions about, or complicate what your classmates wrote. This assignment is meant to help you gather quotations and ideas for your homework assignment where you will need four quotations for each of the topic below. That homework will in turn prepare you for the Timed Writing #2. The idea is for you give and get; that is, offer something for your classmates and get some ideas and quotations in return. Topic #1: Being weighed down and flight (focus on Macon Jr. and Milkman). Topic #2: Guitar’s concern with social justice versus Milkman’s. Topic #3: Women and how they are affected by the flight of male characters.

In the novel, Ruth is weighed down by the psychological torture the husband but her through. For instance, the author notes, “…The others, who knew that the house was more prison than palace…” (p. 18). The quote significantly shows that Ruth was suffering in her marriage to Macon. The symbolic reference of the house as a prison tells us about the torturing experiences the people went through in the house. On the other hand, flight affects women so much as they are left with the burden of children and responsibility. For instance, from the text “…But I always thought it was trying to take care of children by themselves…” (p.340)
